Chipn is a fair bill splitting app for the restaurant, the bar, or the day a colleague paid for the lunch order at work. Scan the receipt, tick off who had what, and everyone pays exactly what they had themselves, with a single scan of a QR code in their banking app. Nobody chips in for someone else's steak or second bottle of wine. No maths, no payment requests afterwards, and not a single byte of your data ever leaves your phone.
Coming soon to the App Store and Google Play, now in closed beta
From paper receipt to settled, in three steps at the table.
Take a photo of the bill. The receipt scanner reads out the products and amounts, entirely on your device, no internet needed.
Tap who ordered each item. Shared something? Chipn works out everyone's share, fair to the cent.
Each person gets their own QR code with their exact amount. Scan it with a banking app, done, the money lands straight in your account. No payment request needed.
Reads products, amounts, VAT and totals from the receipt, in four languages. Long bill? Scan it in parts.
Everyone pays exactly what they had, and nothing of what someone else ate or drank. Shared items are split so the sum adds up exactly. No floating cents, no averaging across the table.
A QR code per person using the European banking standard (EPC, a SEPA transfer). Banking apps across Belgium, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands scan it natively. Straight to your account.
Open up the table and companions tick off their own items on their own phone, over bluetooth, no internet.
Share who-pays-what as a message, with your transfer details for whoever pays from home.
Dutch, French, English and German. The app follows your device, or you pick.
Chipn creates a European bank QR code (EPC) per person, the same kind you find on many invoices. You scan it with your banking app and the transfer is filled in, ready to confirm. So it is a regular bank transfer, not a Bancontact or Payconiq payment, and it works across Europe.
No. Only the person who pays the bill needs Chipn. Everyone else scans a QR code with their banking app. Those who do have the app can tick off their own items at the table.
Nowhere. It stays on your phone. Chipn makes no internet connection at all: the receipt is read on your device and your IBAN is stored encrypted on your device. There is no server and no account. Read the privacy policy.
Receipts from restaurants, bars, chip shops and sandwich bars, in Dutch, French, English and German. Long bill? Scan it in parts. Try it with the example receipts.
No receipt at hand? Open one on your screen and scan it with a second device, or print it. Each receipt comes from a different kind of place, in a different till font, so you can see how the scanner copes. The businesses, addresses and VAT numbers are made up.
Chipn makes no internet connection at all. No server, no account, no tracking, no ads. Your receipt is read on your own phone, your IBAN is stored encrypted on your own device, and payments go directly from bank to bank. That is not just a promise, it is technically verifiable: the app contains no network calls whatsoever.
